Bernedoodles come in different sizes, depending on the parents and the vagaries of genetics. I have found that gender does not determine if a puppy will be bigger or smaller. We have females that end up being large and males that end up being small. It all depends on what genes each puppy gets.

Mini Bernedoodle – results from crossing a Miniature Poodle with a Bernese Mountain Dog, generally ranges from 25-50 lbs. and is 18-22 inches at the shoulder. Size is an average. I have had minis as small as 18 pounds and minis as large as 55 pounds. Learn more about Mini Bernedoodle size here

These ranges capture the averages, but sometimes a pup will fall outside the expected height and weight.
In terms of temperament, Mini and Tiny Bernedoodles may have a slightly higher energy level than the standard, to reflect the same in the Miniature and Toy Poodle parent. However, using calm poodles, regardless of size, tends to produce docile Bernedoodles.

Looking at the parents size you can not always determine what size the puppies will be. The best way to get a good estimate is to look at the generations of the puppy and past puppies from the same pair. You can have a 60 pounds Bernese paired with a 50 pounds poodle and end up with puppies that are 80 pounds.
When you look at the wide range in sizes in the Bernese and the poodle you can see why it is difficult to determine exact size. Bernese Mountain Dogs can be 60-150 pounds and Standard Poodles can be 30- 80 pounds.

When pairing a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Miniature Poodle you have a wide range. If you pair a Bernese Mountain Dog that is 80 pounds but has 100 pounds parents and a Mini Poodle that is 15 pounds but has 10 pounds and 20 pounds parents you end up with a large range in size. You may end up with puppies that take after the poodle side that mature around 20 pounds or you may end up with puppies that take after the Bernese side that mature around 55 pounds. Experience is the only way to make an educated guess on what size the puppies will be. We can usually tell by the time puppies are 4 weeks old if the puppies will be smaller or larger.
